ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – KNIME.com GmbH now provides support contracts for the open source platform KNIME. The modular data exploration platform, originally solely developed at the University of Konstanz, Germany, enables the user to visually create data flows - or pipelines, execute selected analysis steps, and later investigate the results through interactive views on data and models. KNIME already has more than 2,000 active users in diverse application areas, ranging from early drug discovery and customer relationship analysis to financial information integration.
"With the 2.0.2 KNIME release, we have created a reliable and mature product, for which we can provide support for commercial, critical day-to-day use. Many users have asked us for professional support in order to allow them to make KNIME a valuable part within their enterprise IT infrastructure", stated Prof. Michael Berthold, one of the original creators of KNIME and a founder of KNIME.com. The support contracts for KNIME help companies utilize KNIME’s full value by connecting them with a reliable, qualified support partner. "It is important to stress that there will be no functional difference between the freely available KNIME version and the supported one – there are no plans to restrict the open source version of KNIME in any way, in contrast, we believe KNIME should be freely available to anyone interested in analytical data exploration", explained Berthold. KNIME has already sparked a lot of interest in other academic groups, who are putting their own research prototypes into KNIME, thus providing enormous added value to users of the open platform.
KNIME.com was founded in June 2008 in Zurich, Switzerland by the core developers of the KNIME platform. Due to the close connections between the University of Konstanz and the KNIME core development team, KNIME.com is the ideal partner for providing KNIME support. In addition the company boosts further development of the open source version. "Providing support for the product we have developed over the last 5 years was just the next logical step in helping users actually deploy KNIME in their business processes", said Berthold.
Besides providing support and training for KNIME, the company has also started developing products based on KNIME. The first product will be KNIME Grid Support, which allows deployment of compute-intensive (sub-) workflows or nodes on a compute cluster; second in line, KNIME Reporting will make use of KNIME's flexibility to collate data for reports and provide simplified views (static documents or interactive dashboards) on the ensuing workflow and its results; and finally, the KNIME Enterprise Server will facilitate company-wide installations of KNIME and support collaborations between departments and business sites by providing central workflow repositories, scheduled and remote execution, and user rights management.
